Jasmine Holmes joins GMA3 to discuss her book “Crowned with Glory”

Congratulations to Jasmine Holmes on her appearance on GMA3! Jasmine shared about her important book “Crowned with Glory: How Proclaiming the Truth of Black Dignity Has Shaped American History” (Baker Books), which uncovers the powerful stories and writings of Black men and women demanding the liberty, rights, and privileges they were promised and deserved.

These stories, told by Black historical figures—both familiar and lesser known, enslaved and free—illuminate the imago Dei, the personhood, of Black men and women.

Throughout this nation’s history, there’s been an enormous movement of Black Americans whose voices did not make it into history books, their hard-fought patriotism fierce in a land of unequal footing. Crowned with Glory shines a light on the voices that have always been there, fighting for a chance to surface after years of dehumanization, crying for representation.

With insightful reflections on these suppressed voices, Jasmine offers an enlightening look at Black Christians, the abolitionist movement, and its role in American and church history. Readers will hear the unrelenting cries for justice from Black men and women who understood their rights came from the Word of God—and fought for what should have been freely given.

“These men and women—these image bearers—were born free. And no matter how they fought to achieve the physical manifestation of their spiritual freedom, they joined a God-glorifying battle for the acknowledgment of their dignity. Where they wrote down their testimonies, I want to share their testimonies with readers who deserve to know their accomplishments. Where they had not the power of the pen, I want to write their words for them,” Jasmine says. “Students from every tribe, tongue, and nation deserve to know these stories—back then, now, and always.”
